Today was cool. And before I start, I introduce you to our bonus student spotlight segment... ~Greatly generous Gaspard~ Gaspard deserves a spotlight of his own because he has done so much work for my friends and me. From giving us a place to stay in Lyon to organizing student hosts and such, he has really helped us actually be in France! Although we probably stress him out (which directly results in the scrunching of his front hairs), we all genuinely enjoy Gaspard's Gaspardness. I'd like to say we provide good company and humor to him. Gaspard likes to joke around with us and his joke/not joke ratio is usually 50/50. You really don't know if he's lying (well, maybe everyone knows except for me) - he always has me on my toes. Gaspard also has a cool fashion sense and sports a dope hoop earring that I appreciate. Gaspard has taught me some helpful French and has definitely given me 20/20 marks for my efforts. Gaspard, you're truly and honestly the best!!! #chillcrew Drip or drown? Double drip. Quadruple drip. Infinite drip. #gaspardbedrippin Alohaaaa. Today we hit class and learned about the printing process by a woman with the title of solution architect (pretty cool). I thought this would be a cool opportunity because 1) the class was taught in English and 2) I feel like my school doesn't really focus on the art/design aspect of packaging despite attracting many students for that reason. I have struggled in the past with my packaging curriculum as I believe it does not suit most packaging students' interest - design. I would say we have maybe 1 relevant course, but that's it. I understand the difficulties of implement a new course and such, so I'm not pitting blame on anyone! I just wish we had more knowledge in that area. Anyway, the class took up the whole day with intermittent coffee breaks and 1 lunch break. The class material was quite cool and we were able to use these small microscopes to view the ink dots made by certain printing methods (offset lithography, flexography, etc.). I do admit that I grew tired by the end of class, but it was mainly because I am not used to sitting in a classroom for long periods. Womp womp. After class, some classmates and I hit a nearby bar for some apéro! Per recommendation of Gaspard, I had a cherry beer. It was quite good and I was able to taste other people's beers. We had a good time. This was also the place I took Gaspard's goofy picture. Once beer glasses were empty and people were hungry, we went to the supermarket to pick up food for a ~picnic~. We then headed to Mont Mézenc and took a hike to the high point. I was tremendously underdressed and was fortunate enough to put on a ragtag outfit of items from other people (thanks y'all). View the drip above. Gorgeous. Once we reached the top, I sat down and looked beyond and below me. The view was phenomenal and I couldn't help but feel really free? On top of the world, as Azim said? Something like that. From where we were, you could see tops of other trails as well as more mountains over yonder. We tried picnicking, but it was exceptionally difficult to pass bread and cheese because of the wind. Since we were at a higher altitude, it was a bit colder and windier. However, I tried not to complain or think of it too much because when else would I experience this? A picnic at the top of a beautiful mountain range? I think the pictures say it all. Despite the harsh winds, I'm glad we went.
Bonne nuit!
